Alingsås Women

On 13 May 2023, a side that had never taken the field under its own name did so for the first time — the youth ranks of a club barely a year old on paper. Two seasons later, the senior team that grew out of that same merger walked out in the Damallsvenskan, Sweden's top flight, for the first time in its history.

The roots go back further than the name suggests. The women's section traces to Holmalunds IF, founded on 5 December 1933, which fielded teams in Sweden's higher divisions for years under that banner. In 2017 the women's side was relaunched as Alingsås FC United, a rebrand meant to build a stronger identity while keeping the historical line intact, and it spent the following seasons in Elitettan, the second tier. In 2022 that team merged with the football branch of Alingsås IF, a club founded in 1906, and the combined operation took the name Alingsås IF Fotboll.

What followed was a steady climb rather than a sudden one: seventh place in Elitettan in both 2020 and 2021, fourth in 2022, third in 2023 with a run to the promotion play-offs. In 2024, playing as Alingsås IF Women, the club finished second and went up. Home matches are played at Mjörnvallen, which holds 2,000, and the team carries the green and white of grönvita — a colour scheme the fans wear as the club's nickname as much as its kit. There are no major trophies to point to yet; the promotion itself is the achievement the club has been building toward since the 2022 merger gave it a single senior side to put behind.
