It has to do with a name. When Chief Ally Kgomongwe, a South African businessman and former managing director at Mbabane Highlanders, took over the Premier League franchise from Thando "Mangoza" Shabangu in July 2026, he planned to rebrand the top-flight side entirely while restarting "Amawele" from the lower divisions instead.
Amawele spent 2024–25 in the National First Division, Eswatini's second tier, and returned to the Premier League for 2025–26, where they finished 13th. Shabangu had stepped away during the season under financial strain, which opened the door for Kgomongwe's takeover.
