Bayburtspor

The people who put together a club in Bayburt in 1973 were not building for a decade or two of stability. Bayburtspor took its first title early, winning the TFF 3. Lig in the 1985–86 season and going up to the 2. Lig, only to drop straight back down after 1987–88. It played in yellow and black, which is why the stands and the local press still call the side Sarı-Siyahlılar.

The club that carried that name did not survive intact. Administrative and financial trouble got it expelled from the TFF 3. Lig in 2011, and it was dissolved. What continued in its place was Bayburt Özel İdare Spor, run under the city's provincial special administration, playing in the lower divisions under a different structure but for the same town. In 2019 that side won the TFF 3. Lig again, and with it a return to the 2. Lig after 33 years away.

There has been no shortage of hard nights along the way. A Türkiye Kupası tie against Fenerbahçe in 2014–15 ended in a 1-3 home defeat followed by a 5-0 return-leg loss, and the 2020–21 season brought a COVID-19 outbreak through the squad. The club has leaned on supporters directly, running campaigns such as Biz Bize Yeteriz to keep itself funded.

Bayburt Belediyespor is the opponent that matters most, and the two meet in what locals know as the Bayburt Derbisi. Muhammed Çalhanoğlu, brother of Hakan Çalhanoğlu, wore the shirt in the 2. Lig before his move to Trabzonspor. Home games are played in front of 5,000 seats at most, at the Genç Osman Stadyumu.
