The 2024-25 quarterfinals ran true to form — the Fighters got that far, then lost to the Ducks.
The club spent its first years as the Guangzhou Free Man, then the Chongqing Fly Dragons after a 2012 move, before Beikong brought it to Beijing in 2015 as the Beikong Fly Dragons — 'Beikong' is still how Chinese media refer to the team. The 2019 rebrand to Beijing Royal Fighters came with the ownership settled under Beijing Enterprises Holdings and Li Chunli.
Stephon Marbury's name runs through the turnaround. He played a season for the club in 2017-18, came back as head coach from 2019, and took the team into its first playoff appearance in 2021-22. Further playoff runs followed in 2023-24 and 2024-25.
A Seri Mutiara Cup, won in 2017, sits as the one trophy on the shelf.
