Bredballe
Club · Denmark · DBU Pokalen
Bredballe sits on the northern edge of Vejle, up the slope from the fjord, and its football club began where a lot of Danish suburban clubs began — in a room borrowed from a local business. On 20 June 1951 the founding meeting took place in Bager Madsens Konditori, a bakery and café on the corner of Dampskibsvejen and Strandvejen.
Seventy-five years on, that is still roughly what Bredballe IF is. The first team plays in the lower reaches of the Danish pyramid — Serie 4 — and has never won a national title or gone deep in the Danish Cup.
Home is Hældager Stadion on Nørremarksvej, an artificial pitch that most people in the area simply call Bredballe Kunstgræsbane. It holds 500. The club plays in blue and white.
Oliver Provstgaard is the name that travels furthest. The defender started here, left for the Vejle BK academy at 13, and now plays for Lazio while captaining Denmark's under-21 side. That is the pattern for a club of this size: the good ones are identified early and move down the hill to the bigger club in town. Bredballe gets them from four or five years old and keeps them until someone else wants them — Max Nielsen, later called into Denmark's under-18 squad, followed the same route to Vejle in 2018.
None of that shows up in a trophy cabinet. What shows up instead is the ground itself: a single artificial surface with room for 500 people, which has been enough to put a player into Serie A.
