Brühl

Old records at Brühl still carry the scoreline from Geneva: 3-1 against Servette in the 1914/15 Serie A final, the only top-flight title the club has ever won.

The name predates the club that holds it. Boys at the local gymnasium formed Footballclub Gymnasia in 1890, training on a field called Unteres Brühl — now the Spelterini square in St. When the team reconstituted itself on 1 April 1901, it kept the name of the ground rather than the name of the school. It changed again in 1943, to SC Brühl St. Gallen, once the athletics section inside the club had grown large enough to eventually break away and become its own body, LC Brühl.

Before the Servette final, Brühl had already worked its way up through three straight Eastern Switzerland championships, in 1906, 1907 and 1908, the run that opened the door to the national league system. The Serie B title came the same year as the last of those, 1908. An amateur championship followed in 1956, by which point the club's best football was already behind it — Brühl has not played in Switzerland's top flight since 1973, and today sits in the Promotion League, the third tier.
