Csikszereda

The 2018–19 season is the one people in Miercurea Ciuc still reach for: Liga III, Seria V, and a first-place finish that sent the club up to the second division for the first time since its 2010 refoundation. Getting there ran through the Cupa României too, where the same squad reached the quarter-final and knocked out top-flight Dinamo București along the way. The climb kept going — Liga II followed, and after the 2024–25 season the club moved up into Liga I, taking its place in the Superliga for 2025–26.

The name on the badge has changed more times than the ground it plays on. Football in the city dates to 1904, under Austro-Hungarian rule; Transylvania's transfer to Romania in 1919 turned the side into AEF din Miercurea Ciuc, and the years under Hungarian administration from 1940 saw it line up as Csíkszeredai TE. Sponsors and political shifts kept relabelling it afterwards — IUPS, Tractorul, Rapid — until money ran out in 2000 and the club folded entirely by 2010. What plays today was rebuilt from nothing that year and only took the Csíkszereda name again in 2012. On the strength of that 1904 starting point, it is counted as the oldest club now in Romania's top flight.

Home games are played at the Stadionul Municipal, 2,480 seats, all of them under cover of nothing more than the Székely and Hungarian flags that regularly appear in the stands.

Superliga football brings Miercurea Ciuc into range of Kolozsvár's clubs and the other Transylvanian sides it has spent decades meeting only in lower divisions.
