Dakota

Alfonso "Puchungo" Yáñez arrived in Oranjestad already carrying a name earned in Peru, and for one season, 2002-03, he wore yellow and black for SV Dakota — a small detail in the club's history, but the kind that tells you where the Bees' reputation reached. Aruban football has produced its own names too, among them Juan Valdez, who played for the club and for the national side.

SV Dakota shares top billing in Aruban football with SV Racing Club Aruba, the two clubs level at seventeen Division di Honor titles apiece. Dakota's run stretches from 1961 through a string of championships across the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s, then a long gap before the league came back to them in 1995, and again in 2018 and 2022 — a club that has never gone too many years without reminding Aruba it is still there. In the domestic cup, the Copa Betico Croes, Dakota beat SV Estrella 2-1 in 2007 and thrashed Independiente Porto Caravel 4-0 in 2019.

Matches are played at the Estadio Guillermo Próspero Trinidad, which holds around 5,500. The rivalry with Racing Club Aruba is the fixture that matters most on the island's football calendar, even without a settled nickname of its own.

What the Bees have not managed, for all the domestic silverware stacked up since 1947, is to turn that record into a presence beyond Aruba — no website of their own, and little trace of the club outside the island's league tables.
