Dundela's one senior trophy came at Windsor Park in 1955, when the side beat Glenavon 3-0 in the Irish Cup final — the only time a club from the amateur Irish Alliance has won the competition.

The club began in 1895, formed by workers at the Agnew family's Belfast dairy alongside members of a local athletics club. Wilgar Park, tucked into the Strandtown area on the city's east side, has been home ever since 1900 and holds 2,500. Green and white are the colours; red is kept for away days. Locally the team are known as the Duns.

Two deaths mark the club's history. On 25 August 1995, captain Michael Goddard died during a match after being struck in the chest by the ball — Dundela still calls it its darkest hour. In 2023, player Aodhán Gillen was killed in a road accident; that same season the club topped the second tier but stayed there, Wilgar Park's pitch falling short of the dimensions required for the Premiership.

Eric McMordie was spotted at Dundela before moving on to Middlesbrough and the Northern Ireland squad; Billy Caskey, who had made his name at Glentoran and Derby County, closed his career here between 1994 and 1996. Matches against H&W Welders, the other club from east Belfast, are still billed as the East Belfast derby. Dundela remain in the NIFL Championship, waiting on the ground work that would let the next promotion actually count.
