Gagra II
Club · Georgia · David Kipiani Cup
The badge reads Gagra, a name that belongs to a coastal town on the Abkhazian side of a border this Tbilisi-based side will never cross to play a match. FC Gagra II carries the same paradox as its parent club: neither team was formed by anyone still living on that coast; both were built instead by people who had left it and settled in the Georgian capital.
The reserve team plays out of the David Petriashvili Arena in Tbilisi's Digomi district, a ground shared with the first team and listed at 2,130 seats. The kit is blue and white, according to recent kit records. Club records list no nickname for the side, unlike the unrelated Abkhazian club of the same name, known there as the Dolphins.
Gagra II competes in the David Kipiani Cup and the lower tiers of the Georgian league system, the level at which reserve sides face senior opposition. Tornike Okriashvili came through its ranks from 2009, before a career that eventually took him to Shakhtar Donetsk.
The club dates the whole arrangement to 2004, the year both the first team and its reserve side were founded in Tbilisi — a club named for a coast its founders could reach only in memory.
