Its football club is a recent arrival. Gyeongju Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power FC moved there in 2013, and the city's Civic Stadium, with room for 12,199, became its home ground.

The side began as Gyeongseong Electric Football Club, a name tied to 1945, though that date is not firmly documented. It was re-established in 1962 as KEPCO Football Club, and Huh Jung-moo played for it from 1978 to 1980 before leaving for PSV Eindhoven. In 2001 the club was reorganised as KHNP FC and based in Daejeon, and from 2003 it played in the Korea National League as Daejeon KHNP.

It won the South Korean Amateur Championship in 2016. In 2017 it took the National League title and the National League Cup in the same season, then won the league again in 2018. In 2020 it joined the K3 League, the third tier.

Its closest rival is Daejeon Korail FC. There is no named derby between them. KHNP itself played in Daejeon until 2013.
