Chris O'Neil took over as head coach in August 2024 and by the following autumn he had steered Huntsville City into the Eastern Conference semi-finals of MLS Next Pro, where the run ended with a 0-1 loss to Philadelphia Union II.

Huntsville City FC was founded on 12 July 2022 as the reserve side for Nashville SC, both clubs owned by John Ingram. Alongside signed professionals, Nashville academy prospects such as Adem Sipic and Maximus Ecke have come through Huntsville.

Home matches are played at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium, known locally as "The Joe," which was reconfigured in 2023 and now holds 6,000. Supporters call the side the Boys in Blue.
