Jesenice

Jesenice sits at the foot of the Julian Alps, and for most of the twentieth century the town meant one thing: the ironworks. The nickname that followed, Železarji — the Ironworkers — needed no explanation locally.

The club's record reads as a history of interruptions rather than climbs. The senior team was disbanded in 1964, rebuilt within the year, then broke apart again in 1967, leaving only the youth sides on the pitch. It happened once more in 2000, and once more the town brought it back, in 2001. Between those gaps, Jesenice's honours have mostly come at regional level — titles in the Gorica sub-zone through the 1930s to the 1980s, and promotions through the lower tiers of Slovenian football in 1994, 2002, 2009 and 2011.

Miral Samardžić came through the club's own academy between 1996 and 2003, went on to play for the Slovenia national side, and returned to Jesenice in 2023 — the kind of full circle a town this size notices. Senad Tiganj, born in Jesenice and capped at the 2002 World Cup, wore the shirt briefly in 2015, late in a career built elsewhere.

Matches against ND Gorica and NK Triglav Kranj carry the weight of the Gorenjska region's football rivalries, though Jesenice's own home, Športni park Podmežakla, holds just 1,500.
