The LFF Stadium in Vilnius holds 5,067 seats, a modest number that still makes it the largest ground regularly given over to the women's game in Lithuania. It started life in 1957 and stood for decades before a 2004 rebuild changed its shape; the Lithuanian Football Federation took it over in 2010 and gave it the name it carries now, and that is where the national team plays its home fixtures.

The team itself came together after independence returned in 1990, once the Lithuanian Football Federation had been re-established. Its first match followed on 15 August 1993, away in Kaunas against Denmark, and it ended 0–11 under the team's first head coach, Jurijus Sarapas — a result that says more about where women's football in the country stood that year than about the players who took the pitch.

Known as Lietuvės, the team has taken the yellow shirt, yellow shorts and yellow socks worn by the men's side, and it has built its record in the region rather than on the wider stage: five wins in the Women's Baltic Cup, in 1996, 1998, 2007, 2015 and 2021. A World Cup, a European Championship or an Olympic tournament has not yet followed, though the most recent qualifying campaign brought a marker of progress — Lithuania won their group in the 2027 World Cup qualifiers' lower division, taking 11 points and, with that, promotion to the level above for the next cycle.

No player has worn the shirt more often than Algimantė Mikutaitė, whose 73 caps stand as the team's record.
