Llanes

Football in Llanes grew out of the town itself — a coastal municipality in eastern Asturias, close enough to Cantabria that the club's competitive world has always been regional rather than national. The founders set it up on 21 March 1949 as an amateur side, and it has stayed one: no mergers, no change of name, no move away from the Estadio San José.

For half a century that was the whole story. The club spent from 1949 to 1999 in the Asturian regional leagues, climbing out of Segunda Regional as champions in 1987–88 and reaching the top of Regional Preferente in 1998–99. That second title took CD Llanes into Tercera División for the first time, at the fourth level of the Spanish system.

What followed was three spells there rather than one: 1999 to 2005, then 2006 to 2013, then 2014 to 2021. Fourth place in 2008–09, repeated the following season and again in 2017–18, put the club into the promotion play-offs for Segunda B. When the leagues were restructured, Llanes carried the same habits into Tercera Federación.

The one trophy outside the regional ladder came in 2019, in the Asturian phase of the Copa Federación de España. CD Tuilla were beaten in the final — a knockout won inside Asturias, which is the scale at which this club has always competed.

A women's team existed between 2001 and 2005 and was brought back in 2019.

Because everything happens within the region, the opponents that matter are the ones from the same lists: Tuilla among them, and the rest of the Asturian sides Llanes has met season after season for seventy-five years.
