Macapá U20

Panair Esporte Clube took the field for the first time on 18 July 1944. Two years later the name changed to Esporte Clube Macapá, and the shirt that came with it — white over black, lifted straight from the state and city flags — has stayed put since.

What followed was a run without real precedent in Amapá football: seventeen state championships between 1944 and 1991, a haul no other club in the Campeonato Amapaense has matched. The nickname Leão da FAB traces back to Avenida FAB, where the club's old headquarters stood.

Two brothers carried the Macapá name into the national game. Aldo went on to Fluminense and a place in Brazil's 1986 World Cup squad, while Bira Burro won the Brazilian championship with Internacional in 1979 — both started out wearing the club's colours in Macapá. Against Amapá Clube, dissolved in 2015, Macapá played the Clássico Vovô.

The Segunda Divisão title picked up in 2025, alongside the one from 1989, sits oddly next to those seventeen state crowns. The Glicerão, the municipal ground the first team still calls home, holds a little over 5,600.
