Malacateco FC

The Estadio Santa Lucía sits in Malacatán, in the department of San Marcos, and holds somewhere around 8,000 people. Malacateco have made it their home.

The club itself was assembled rather than founded: three local sides — Morazán, Interrogación and Juvenil — merged in September 1962.

What followed was not a straight line. There were spells in the top flight in the 1960s and 70s, then a long absence, then a return in 2004 that lasted four years. In 2007 they became the first club to take both the Apertura and the Clausura in the same year of the Primera División de Ascenso — enough to go straight back up.

The season that changed how the club is spoken about was Apertura 2021.
