Merani Martvili II

Skuri did for them in the first round of the 2021 David Kipiani Cup, 4-0. Two years later Merani Martvili II went one round further — beating Odishi 1919 2-0 — before Kolkheti-1913 finished the job, 3-2. Cup draws against sides from the lower tiers are, so far, the closest thing the club has to a rivalry.

The team plays as the reserve side of FC Merani Martvili in that same competition, set aside for clubs' second and youth sides. It wears the senior team's colours — white shirts, red sleeves and shorts — onto the pitch at the Murtaz Khurtsilava Stadium, a 2,000-capacity ground in Martvili.

The senior club goes back to 1955, when it played under a run of earlier names — Salkhino Gegechkori, Chkondidi Martvili, Salkhino Martvili — before it fell away and was brought back in 2006 by Pridon Injia, a former Georgian minister of communications. That senior side has since reached a David Kipiani Cup final, losing 1-2 to Torpedo Kutaisi in 2015/16, and collected second-tier bronze on four separate occasions. The reserve team's own honours list still has nothing on it.

What both share is the town, and a name the club has carried through its years away and the ones since it came back: merani, the Georgian word for Pegasus.
