The parent, FC Saburtalo, was renamed Iberia 1999 in 2024, after the club Tariel Khetsikashvili founded on 20 August 1999 as owner of the Iberia Business Group. The reserve side carries the Saburtalo name from the district of the Georgian capital where the club is rooted, and it is also known as Iberia 1999 II.

It competes in Liga 3, the third tier, and in Erovnuli Liga 2, but it cannot be promoted, and some cup competitions are closed to it.

The senior side has the nickname Red Eagles and a long rivalry with Dinamo Tbilisi, known as the capital derby.
