Mérida AD

The rights to Mérida's footballing identity were bought at a judicial auction. That was in 2013, when a new association picked up the federative licence and the name of Mérida UD, itself heir to CP Mérida, founded in 1912 as Sportiva Emeritense. Three clubs in one city, one thread running through them — and the current one, Asociación Deportiva Mérida, dates its own constitution to 19 February 2013.

What the thread carries is mostly the 1990s. CP Mérida won the Segunda in 1994/95 and again in 1996/97, each title taking the club up to the Primera, and reached the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey in 1997/98.

Under Ángel Alcázar it took the Tercera in 2014/15 and went up to Segunda B; in 2025/26 it plays in Primera Federación, Group I. Ownership changed in 2025, when Best Intentions Analytics Limited — a group connected to Brentford — bought the club.

Badajoz is the fixture that matters. The Derbi extremeño sets the regional capital against the largest city of Badajoz province, and CP Cacereño makes a third.
