Monsoon

Capão da Canoa spends most of the year as a beach town, its population swelling in summer and thinning out once the tourists leave the Litoral Norte. Since November 2025 it has had something the resort calendar cannot give it: a football club to call its own, after Monsoon Futebol Clube shifted its headquarters up from Porto Alegre.

The move closed a short and unusual first chapter. Monsoon was founded in November 2021 by Lucas Pires, an MMA promoter, working with the UAE-based Monsoon VP International group, and it built its early sides on the old infrastructure of the defunct Porto Alegre Futebol Clube. Matches in those years were split between the modest Parque Lami ground and the Estádio do Vale in Novo Hamburgo whenever the fixture called for a bigger venue. None of that travelling suited a club trying to build an identity, and the switch to the coast gave it a home ground in the Estádio Passo D'Areia and a fixed audience of 10,600 seats to grow into.

On the pitch, the club has moved up a division almost every time it has mattered. An unbeaten run through the Campeonato Gaúcho Série B in 2022 brought the first title. Two years later came the Série A2, settled against Pelotas only after two goalless draws in the final forced a shootout; goalkeeper Max saved the decisive penalties to send Monsoon up to the state's top flight. Their first season among Rio Grande do Sul's elite, in 2025, ended with an eighth-place finish.

For now, the club has one thing the town can already put a number on: 10,600.
