A goal scored by one of Peamount United's forwards once stood on the same shortlist as strikes from that year's World Cup and Champions League. Stephanie Roche's volley for the club was nominated for the FIFA Puskás Award in 2014; the following year she finished runner-up in the Ballon d'Or Féminin vote. She had already been the league's top scorer twice, in 2011-12 and 2013-14, playing in front of crowds that rarely stretch the 1,000-capacity at Greenogue, the club's ground in Newcastle, County Dublin, also known as PRL Park.

The nickname, The Peas, comes straight from the club's name. Home colours are green shirts with black shorts and socks; the away kit is blue.

Peamount have won the Women's National League four times — 2011-12, 2019, 2020 and 2023 — and the FAI Women's Cup twice, in 2010 and 2020. Louise Quinn captained the side to that first title; Eleanor Ryan-Doyle, later named Player of the Season, led it to the 2019 championship. Katie Taylor, now an Olympic boxing champion, once played for the club too.

Matches against Shamrock Rovers Women, both clubs drawn from south County Dublin, are known locally as the South Dublin Derby.

Peamount United was founded in 1983, in Newcastle, on the western edge of County Dublin.
