The West Bengal state police force put a football team of its own onto the pitches of Kolkata in 1952, through the names Calcutta Police Club, West Bengal Police FC and, in recent Calcutta Football League tables, Police AC. The nickname needed no invention: the Policemen.

The club sits in the Calcutta Premier Division, the top tier of a league where the fixture list throws it against Tollygunge Agragami, Mohammedan SC and the reserve side of Mohun Bagan Super Giant. Its one recorded trophy came in 2008, in the Trades Cup — a competition older and smaller than the league that surrounds it.

Where the Policemen actually play is a harder question than it should be. Kakinara Narayanpur Ground in Bhatpara, with room for 15,000, is listed as home, but the club keeps no fixed base.

There is no official website. No club colours are recorded anywhere, and the only crest in circulation belongs to the police department rather than to the football side. Even the national federation's own listing carries the founding year as unknown.

What the club has not done is win the Premier Division.
