Measurers

In 1914 a side made up of men from the customs service at the Kolkata port played a match against Mohun Bagan for a place in the top flight of the Calcutta Football League. The first meeting settled nothing. In the replay the Measurers won 2-1, and the promotion they took that afternoon lasted seven seasons, from 1914 to 1921.

The club had been put together in 1902 by Portuguese officers working in that same customs service, which is where the name comes from. The motto they gave it, Facta-Non Verba, deeds not words, is one of the few things about the early club that has come down intact. The colours have not.

Then came a very long absence. The second-division finish of 1914 and the run that followed it were the high point for more than a century; the club stayed away from the Premier Division until 2024, when it came back up and finished among the top four. That is 103 years between one top-flight campaign and the next, in a city where the league has run continuously through almost all of it.

The fixture that carries the most weight now is against Kalighat Milan Sangha. The two drew 0-0 in 2024. In 2025 the Measurers won it 1-0.
