Wari

Jamshid Nassiri had spent his playing years in the shirts that filled the Kolkata Maidan when Wari AC brought him in as technical director in 2003. By then the club had been outside the top flight for close to twenty years.

Pradyut Barman kept goal here from 1957. Parimal Dey came through in the early sixties, Samaresh Chowdhury later in the decade, and Bhabani Ray went from the club to the India squad at the 1970 Asian Games. Pritam Kotal, who would go on to play for India, was on the books until 2010.

There is no ground to speak of. Wari move between Bidhannagar M.C. Ground, Rabindra Sarobar Stadium and others across the city, and the club's fixed address is a tent on Mayo Road, in the Maidan. Two Trades Cup finals, in 2005 and 2016, were lost. Promotion came again in 2019, then a single season in Premier Division B in 2022 and an immediate return to the third tier. In 2023 the club was placed in the merged Premier Division for the league's 125th edition.

In 1898, in Dacca, members of the disbanded Wellington Club started again under a new name, with the zamindar Rai Bahadur Surendranath Roy behind them. The city is now Dhaka, in another country; the club came to Kolkata and entered the CFL Third Division in 1949.
