Kigali built the BK Arena in 2019, a 10,000-seat venue, and the Tigers were founded that same year, 2019, by Francis Shyaka, an entrepreneur and former player who set up the team and has chaired it ever since. What changed the club's standing was not on the court at first: the Rwanda Social Security Board took full ownership around the turn of 2026, and the team dropped the old Tigers BBC name for RSSB Tigers.
On the floor, the rise came fast rather than steady. The cups told a different story. They took the Rwanda Basketball Cup in 2025, their first major trophy under the old name, then opened the new season by beating APR BBC 78-68 for the Super Cup.
Then came the Basketball Africa League final in Kigali on 31 May 2026. Down by 20 points to Angola's Petro de Luanda, the Tigers clawed the game back and won it 90-88, with captain Antino Jackson hitting the shot that settled it. Craig Randall II took the finals MVP award, Mangok Mathiang was named Defensive Player of the Year, and Henry Mwinuka, the head coach, picked up Coach of the Year. No Rwandan club had won the BAL before. The title sent them to Beijing in September for the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, into a group with Rytas Vilnius and the Shanghai Sharks — a long way from the arena where it started, 10,000 seats at a time.
