Stade Mouscronnois

In 1922 Mouscron got a football club of its own. It took until May 1925 to register with the Belgian federation, and only in 1926 did the paperwork settle on stamnummer 508. Not until 1938 did the side reach the national divisions at all, and a 1952 league reform knocked it back down even as it stayed on the national map. A second promotion arrived in 1959, and in 1962–1963 the club won its Promotion series outright, stepping up to Third Division for what would be its final season. On 1 July 1964, Stade Mouscronnois merged with local rival ARA Mouscronnoise to form Excelsior Mouscron — later Royal Excelsior Mouscron — and stamnummer 508 disappeared with it.

The name came back in 2022, after Royal Excel Mouscron's bankruptcy left the city without a senior club. What returned was a different legal entity, stamnummer 9702, built from the bottom of the provincial pyramid and carrying the old red-and-white colours. The climb since has been fast: champions of 3e Provinciale Hainaut in 2022–2023, of 2e Provinciale in 2023–2024, and of 1re Provinciale in 2024–2025, a run of three straight titles that carried the club into D3 ACFF.

Among those who joined the rebuild was Anthony Knockaert, who had played for Standard Liège, Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion and worn the Belgian shirt before turning out for Stade Mouscronnois and lifting the P1 title with it. Home games are played at Stade Le Canonnier, which holds 10,800.
