«Statesmen»
Boswell Field sits inside David J. Urick Stadium in Geneva, New York, holding 3,000 spectators for a Division III programme that has been fielding teams since 1891 — decades before Hobart and William Smith Colleges' athletic identity took the shape it has now. For years the team played under the name Deacons, until a 1936 game against Amherst College prompted The New York Times to describe the visitors as "the statesmen from Geneva." The name stuck, and the Statesmen have carried it since, in purple and orange.
The programme's identity was built on a run of Liberty League titles between 2013 and 2016, four championships in a row, bracketed by shared crowns in 2008 and 2012 and another in 2024. Alfred University's Saxons have supplied the regular measure of that success, a conference rivalry that gives the Liberty League schedule its sharpest edge.
