TPV

Kauppi Football Stadium sits inside Tampere's Kauppi sports park, a modest ground holding just 1,000 people.

The club traces back to 6 April 1930, born inside the workers' sports movement, TUL, rather than the mainstream Finnish federation. It stayed there for a generation, winning the TUL championship six times between 1932 and 1946, and came within a replay of the full national title in 1946, beaten 5-1 by VIFK after two drawn finals. TPV joined the Finnish FA, the SPL, only in 1955, and in 1969 dropped its ice hockey section to concentrate on football alone.

Its one Veikkausliiga title arrived in 1994, under coach Pertti Lundell. Jarkko Wiss, who later coached Finland's under-19 side and clubs including Ilves and KuPS, was part of that squad, along with defender Jari Niemi, who went on to make 193 appearances for the club.

The years after were less kind. The football side was spun off as TPV Tampere ry in 1995, merged briefly with city rivals Ilves in 1998 to form Tampere United before pulling out, then went bankrupt in 2002. Football returned to the original Tampereen Pallo-Veikot organisation, and the club rebuilt from the lower divisions from there. It has never won the Finnish Cup; semi-finals in 1957 and 1983, the latter ended by Haka, mark its best efforts.

Known as Punakone, the Red Machine, TPV plays in red and white and still meets Ilves and Tampere United in Tampere's derby fixtures.
