Confusion is baked into the name. Ask a Yekaterinburg fan about "Ural" in basketball and half will point you to a Super League champion that no longer exists — the old BC Ural Yekaterinburg side that took the national title in 2011–12 and then again the following season, with Lance Harris and Marco Killingsworth carrying the scoring load and Temp-SUMZ-UGMK from nearby Revda as the team's answer to a derby. That club is gone. What plays now under a similar name grew out of something else entirely: a merger, completed in 2024, between a children's basketball school's youth side, TSK-Ural, and the student team of the Ural State University of Railway Transport, whose first squad had already been turning out since 1996. Two feeder programmes with decades of running in parallel simply became one senior entity.

The result competes in the Higher League, the third tier of Russian basketball, and trains and plays out of the university's own hall on Kolmogorova Street, a venue sized for students and a few hundred loyal onlookers rather than a paying crowd. Blue and orange carry over from both predecessor programmes, with white added for away trips.

There is no silverware to point to yet from the merged club itself — the Super League titles belong to the old Ural, not this one — but the current side has started to put results together. It finished the 2025/2026 regular season second in the Higher League table before the title went to Rusichi in the playoffs, and it was also left as runner-up in the S.N. Tarakanov Cup. The academy side has already sent Semyon Shashkov through its ranks, and Arseniy Semenov now features for the senior team built from those two merged programmes just two seasons ago.
