UD Logroñés

Félix Revuelta, a local businessman, put up the money in June 2009 after the old CD Logroñés collapsed into liquidation. Rather than start from nothing, he bought the playing licence of CD Varea, a club founded in 1967 in the Varea district of Logroño that had just earned promotion to Segunda División B. Most of Varea's squad stayed on under the new badge, and UD Logroñés simply stepped into the vacated slot in the third tier.

The club plays at Estadio Las Gaunas, which holds 16,000, in a white shirt with black shorts and socks, sometimes swapped for a red-and-white second option. In 2019/20, with the league halted by the pandemic, Logroñés still finished top of Segunda B group II and beat Castellón in the play-off final that July to reach Segunda División. A run to the final of the Copa RFEF followed later that year against Talavera CF, and in the Copa del Rey the side has occasionally punched above its level, knocking out Girona before running into Athletic Club.

None of that carries the weight of what came before under the old crest. It was at CD Logroñés that Julen Lopetegui kept goal through the early 1990s before building a coaching career that reached the Spain national team, and where Oleg Salenko scored seven goals in half a season in 1992/93 to keep the club up. That history belongs to a club that no longer exists in any legal sense.
