Between 1993 and 1994 the club took the league and the cup in both seasons, and the cup run barely stopped after that — 1995, 1996, 1997, then 1999. Twelve Burundian Cups in all, against 11 league titles.
The furthest they went outside the country was 1992, when they reached the final of the African Cup Winners' Cup and lost to Africa Sports of Côte d'Ivoire. The two league titles that closed the run, in 2006 and 2007, came more than a decade after the peak years. This season they sit sixth.
It was set up in 1957 as Rwanda Sport FC, and the name kept changing with the era around it: ALTECO from 1962, then Tout Puissant Bata for five years from 1966, then Espoir after a merger with Rapide FC. Vital'O came around 1975 — the first name that stuck.
