Arquitecto Ricardo Etcheverri

Kick a ball from the pitch here in any direction and you will hit history that predates almost every rival ground in the capital: this is the oldest stadium still in use in Buenos Aires, standing in Caballito since it opened its gates at the start of 1905. The name on the front, though, belongs to someone who never played a match here — Ricardo Etcheverri sat on Ferro Carril Oeste's board for more than three decades, and in 1995 the club swapped the old railway-line name for his in recognition of that service.

The ground has grown in fits and starts rather than in one grand plan. For long stretches capacity sat far below what the record books show it once held, and Ferro have talked for years of pushing it out past 27,000. A reminder of what the terraces can hold when the occasion demands it came back in 1982, when a Charly García concert packed in 25,000 people, well above the club's own matchday numbers of that era. The stands themselves tell their own story in layers: the capped end went up in 1938, the main stand followed in 1970, and the west stand only reopened last year, in August 2025, after standing derelict since it collapsed in 2021.

Ferro Carril Oeste still own and run the place themselves, on Avellaneda in Caballito, on a natural grass pitch that has outlasted stands built and rebuilt around it.
