Estadio Atanasio Girardot
Medellín, Colombia
Guillermo González Zuleta oversaw the design and build. The ground opened on 19 March that year, and a week later hosted its first match, a 2-2 draw between Peru's Alianza Lima and Brazil's Fluminense in the 1953 Torneo Cuadrangular de Medellín.
Its current shape dates to the 1990 construction of the tall popular stands, and then to a 2010–2011 rebuild ahead of the 2011 Under-20 World Cup and the 2010 South American Games, which brought in plastic seating, new dressing rooms, a press area, VIP boxes, an anti-doping room and a media centre.
Decades later, Maluma's 2022 "Medallo en el Mapa" concert drew close to 54,000 — a huge night, but still short of that football record.
The stadium is run by INDER Medellín, the city's sport and recreation institute, with no separate site of its own.
