Estádio Benedito Teixeira (Teixeirão)
Ask a fan in São Paulo state where Santos won their eighth Brazilian title, and the answer isn't a ground in the capital — it's here. Teixeirão, as everyone in São José do Rio Preto calls it, made its name lending its pitch to teams too big for it: Santos, São Paulo, Corinthians and Palmeiras all rotated home fixtures through here for years.
The stadium rose on the site of an older ground fans had nicknamed Caldeirão do Diabo — the Devil's Cauldron — and opened with São Paulo edging home América 3-2, Valdir scoring the first goal the place ever saw. Weeks later the Brazilian Olympic squad thrashed Ghana 8-2 in a friendly staged on the same turf.
Between fixtures, Teixeirão has also doubled as a concert venue, once hosting Luan Santana.
