Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores

The ground sits at the edge of the Ciudad de los Deportes complex. It is not the prettiest arena in Central America. Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores opened on February 23, 1950, for the Central American and Caribbean Games, though the exact date in some records is August 18, 1950.

What makes this place different is what happened inside it. On October 16, 1996, the crowd for a 1996 FIFA World Cup qualification match between Guatemala and Costa Rica surged through a gate. The result was a stampede that killed more than 83 and injured over 140. The stadium was banned from international matches for years after, and the wooden terraces were dismantled, replaced by plastic seats that brought the capacity down to 26,116. The tickets were counterfeit, and the crowd sensed blood before the whistle even blew.

Municipal, who played here until 1991, and Comunicaciones F.C., who were tenants until 2024.
