Estadio Jorge Basadre
Tacna, Peru
Formerly: Estadio Modelo de Tacna
Estadio Jorge Basadre Grohmann does not announce itself with glamour. It sits in the Tacna District.
When it opened in 1954, it carried the name Estadio Modelo de Tacna, a plain enough title for a plain enough purpose. The capacity has shifted over the years, settling around 20,000 now. That work also included the pitch itself, which was briefly covered in artificial turf before being returned to natural grass. The surface is crucial here.
The renovation also saw the stadium renamed in honour of the historian Jorge Basadre Grohmann. More recently, the ground has been looked at for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup. It is a functional building, built for football, and it continues to serve that purpose.
