Kevin Lora finished 2024 as the leading scorer of a side. He arrived with Coronel Bolognesi and Amigos de la PNP behind him, at a club in Alto de la Alianza, and by December he was part of the team that took the Copa Perú final to penalties. Bentín Tacna Heroica drew 1-1 with FC Cajamarca, won the shootout 4-3, and went up to Liga 2.
The coach through that stretch was Jesús Álvarez, who had worked with Episa Corazón in Ilo before taking the Tacna job. Under him the club won everything in front of it in 2023 and again in 2024 — district, provincial and departmental titles in the same two seasons — and then the national competition that turns amateur champions into professional clubs.
The district titles came first and came often: Alto de la Alianza in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Those were played at Héroes del Alto de la Alianza, in the club's own neighbourhood, before the Copa Perú rounds and then Liga 2 moved the team to the Estadio Jorge Basadre, which holds 25,000. In 2025 the club has also used the Estadio Joel Gutiérrez.
The nickname, Vendaval Azul, comes from the shirt. Blue, white and gold are the club colours; the 2025/26 home kit is blue throughout, the away shirt yellow with blue sleeves, the third white. The badge is a shield with a crowned lion.
The full name is Club Deportivo Esther Grande de Bentín de Tacna Heroica, and it has not changed since 14 October 2014. That first season the club won the Segunda Distrital of Alto de la Alianza — the lowest rung there is in Tacna.
