Through the whole regional stage of the 2008 Copa Perú, the side from Cutervo did not lose a match — twenty-one wins in a row, district league through to region.

The team had begun seven years before that as Los Comerciantes — the traders — a side put together in 2001 by a group that included Abdías Cieza Tapia.

Promotion took longer. Carlos Silvestri repeated the second-tier title in 2023.

The ground is Estadio Juan Maldonado Gamarra, and its capacity of 24,576 sits oddly against the size of Cutervo. The club has not always been able to use it: rebuilding work pushed the whole debut Liga 2 season of 2014 out to the province of Santa Cruz, and the team only came home in 2015. In 2024 the club looked at Estadio Mansiche in Trujillo as an alternative, without moving.
