«El Grifo»
A group of women who played volleyball in Trujillo went looking for a patron, and found one in the local businessman Carlos José Mannucci Vega and his mother, Laura Vega de Mannucci. The name they gave the new institution in November 1959 was that of the man both had lost: Carlos Alberto Mannucci Finochetti.
The rise was quick once it began. Two Copa Perú titles, in 1968 and 1969, carried the club into the Peruvian first division, though the first stay lasted a single season before relegation. A return in 1974 held longer, and in the second half of the 1980s Mannucci three times reached the Liguilla, the play-off for a place in the Copa Libertadores — 1985, 1987 and 1991, and no closer to a national title than that.
Relegation in 1994 opened a stretch in the lower divisions that ran for two decades. An invitation to the Segunda División arrived in 2014, the promotion play-offs were won in 2018, and the club went down again in 2024 after finishing 16th in Liga 1.
Estadio Mansiche has been the only ground the club has known. Universidad César Vallejo use it too, which makes the Clásico Trujillano a derby with no love lost played by both sides at home.
Blue, white and red are the colours of the Trujillo flag, and blue has led the shirt since 1968. Among the nicknames the crowd uses is El Automotriz.
