Alianza Universidad had barely unpacked in the top flight when it had to leave again. The club won the Segunda División in 2024 and went up for the 2025 season, only to finish that same campaign back in the relegation zone.

The name on the shirt is younger than the club itself. What started life as Club Social Deportivo Alianza Huánuco, born from a merger of Sport Grau and Jorge Chávez, only became Alianza Universidad in 2004, when it tied itself to the Universidad Privada de Huánuco. Long before either promotion to the professional ranks, the club had already built a case in the amateur pyramid, collecting eight Liga Departamental de Huánuco titles and three regional championships on the Copa Perú pathway.

None of that carries the edge of the Clásico Huanuqueño, the derby against León de Huánuco.

Blue shirt, red stripes, a nickname — Azulgranas — that needs no translation. Home is the Estadio Heraclio Tapia, remodelled in 2010 to hold 25,000.
