Before it hosted a single match, the ground in Parque São Vicente sat half-finished for the better part of two decades. Work began in 1968, stalled a year later over political disputes, and in 1977 the municipality tried to hand the unfinished shell to Corinthians for a home ground of their own — a deal that never closed. The site stood abandoned until construction finally resumed and the stadium was completed in 1984.

It opened on 8 December 1984 with a friendly between hosts Grêmio Esportivo Mauaense and São Paulo, who won 2-1 with a goal from a young Careca. Around 15,000 people packed in that night, a crowd the ground has never matched since.

Capacity has grown from the original 8,567 to 10,590 after a 2006 expansion, and the venue is now rated large enough to hold close to 12,000 under certain configurations. Structural work in 2018-2019 — new dressing rooms, upgraded floodlighting and press areas, ramps and wheelchair spaces — brought the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior back to Mauá after a 32-year gap. The 1985 edition had already put Santos, Flamengo, Palmeiras and Fluminense through the turnstiles; Raí and Marco Antônio Boiadeiro featured in a Palmeiras-Botafogo-SP tie, while Aldair and Zinho, both future world champions with Brazil in 1994, met here in a São Paulo-Flamengo game.

Renamed along the way from the plain Estádio Municipal to honour footballer Pedro Benedetti, the ground still runs on natural grass, aerated and fertilised as recently as March 2024.
