Estádio Municipal Prefeito José Liberatti
Osasco, Brazil
Around Jardim Rochdale, everyone still calls it the Rochdalão.
Its opening fixture set a standard the ground rarely matched again: Palmeiras beat Corinthians 1-0 to inaugurate the pitch, with mayor Celso Antonio Giglio doing the honours. Two years later the Rochdalão had a smaller but sharper effect on the national table: a 1-0 defeat to Juventus, of São Paulo, in the 1998 Série B left Fluminense with their backs against the wall in the fight to avoid the drop, and they went down that season.
The most recent change of substance came in January 2014, when OSRAM R3 Maxi Siteco floodlights and LED fittings replaced the old lighting rig, allowing evening fixtures a municipal ground of this size had previously done without. The record crowd, 12,669, came on 16 May 2016, for the first leg of the Campeonato Paulista final between Audax and Santos, a 1-1 draw that put a stadium better known for lower-division football at the centre of the state season. The same competition brought uglier scenes that year, when a match against São Bento ended with players and police involved in a fight in the dressing-room corridor.
Away from the game, the ground has doubled as Osasco's largest public stage: a free concert marking the city's 61st anniversary in February 2023 drew around 15,000 people, admission paid in tins of food for local charities.
