Estadio Nueva Chicago

The ground in Mataderos began as a municipal rubbish tip. When the club lost its previous field — requisitioned so a hospital could be built on it — members and neighbours filled and levelled the dump themselves, and the pitch that emerged was opened with a Tercera División match against Sportivo Buenos Aires. Nueva Chicago won it 2–0, and the win carried the championship and promotion to the Segunda División with it. Dartiguelongue is credited with the design.

A cement stand went up first, then a wooden headstand, then a second headstand, another wooden grandstand, night lighting, and the stand known as Chicago 2000. The lateral stand República de Mataderos came later, and it gave the whole ground the name most people use for it — the club has no former official name, only that alias.

The last major work, the Mercado de Hacienda stand, cost the neighbourhood something concrete: five classrooms and other facilities of a vocational school on Carhue street were demolished to make room, on land the club had ceded to the city.

The terraces behind the goals are still standing areas, the Callero y Persi end among them.
