Estádio Olímpico Pedro Ludovico
Goiânia, Brazil
Formerly: Estádio Olímpico (informal)
The concrete bowl standing in Setor Central today is not the stadium that opened here in 1941. That original ground was pulled down entirely in 2006. What reopened in August 2016, under the banner of the Centro de Excelência do Esporte project, is a new build wearing an old, informal name.
The gap between the two eras shows in the numbers nobody quotes anymore. On 31 January 1965, a friendly between Flamengo and Vasco da Gama, goalless on the pitch, drew 35,000 into stands built for a fraction of that. The rebuilt stadium never tries to answer that kind of night — it seats 13,500, all of it plastic tip-up chairs, a ground scaled for regular use rather than one-off spectacle.
What the modern arena has instead is a shared tenancy that would strain a smaller ground: Goiânia Esporte Clube, Atlético Goianiense, Vila Nova and Goiás have all called it home. The rebuild also brought the stadium back onto the international calendar, hosting matches at the 2019 Under-17 World Cup and at Copa América 2021.
