Goyânia lost 0:1 to Bom Jesus in the seventh round of the Goyano-2 regular season on Friday night. The visitors took the lead in the 34th minute and held on after going down to ten men in the 84th minute. To be fair, the hosts had more of the ball but never really got going.
The goal came from a well-taken effort by the away side, and it proved decisive. By then Goyânia had already been pressing for an equaliser but couldn't break through. The crowd roared them on, but the Bom Jesus defence sat deep and soaked it up.
Then came the twist. At 84 minutes a Goyânia player picked up a red card, and the match seemed to settle into a nervous phase. The visitors refused to go away entirely, but they had little to fear. And here's the thing — the game had been decided long before the dismissal.
Statistically, it was a one-sided possession battle. Goyânia enjoyed 61 per cent of the ball and registered 12 shots compared to five for Bom Jesus. Yet only seven shots found the target for the hosts, while the visitors managed just five. Expected goals would tell a similar story — many shots with one goal means chances went begging.
The result moves Bom Jesus further clear in second place with 18 points from nine games. Goyânia remain in fifth on 13 points, and they have not won since losing 2:0 away to Morrinhões on 16 August. The gap between them and the top is growing.
