«Azulão do Vale»
Goianésia Esporte Clube took its name and its colours from the town built along the valley of the São Patrício river in the state of Goiás, and the valley stuck: the nickname, Azulão do Vale, ties the royal blue of the shirt to the ground it stands on.
The one honour in the cabinet is the 1985 Campeonato Goiano Série B, the state's second tier. Goianésia has never gone on to win the top flight itself; the nearest it came was finishing runner-up in the 2020 Campeonato Goiano.
The club's best run came earlier, in the first half of the 2010s. Romerito, a midfielder who arrived in 2013, ran the side that finished third in that year's state championship — high enough to send Goianésia into Série D for the first time. He later came back as coach.
In 2015, against Vila Nova, he scored a goal FIFA judged the best in the world that year, awarding it the Puskás Award.
