Goiânia

The Estádio Olímpico Pedro Ludovico holds 13,500, in the city whose name the club eventually took as its own.

That name came later than the club itself. A group led by José Henrique da Veiga Jardim, known as Zezé da Veiga, set it up informally on 30 July 1936. When it was registered two years later, on 27 May 1938, it carried a different name, Corintians Goiano Futebol Clube. Goiânia Esporte Clube only appeared on 5 July 1940, and that date, not either of the earlier two, is the one the club marks as its birthday.

The rivalry with Atlético Clube Goianiense predates the rename — the two sides first met on 31 July 1938, in what is now called Clássico Vovô, the grandfather derby. Black and white have stayed Goiânia's colours throughout, under the nickname Galo Carijó.

The club won the Campeonato Goiano 14 times between 1948 and 1974, and added the Copa Brasil Central in 1967. José Henrique da Veiga Jardim coached the side himself through its first two years; Hemerson Maria took the job in 2025, the same year the club restructured as a SAF. Ecival Martins took a 90 per cent stake in the new company, with the original civil association keeping the rest.

No Campeonato Goiano title has followed the one from 1974, and the Copa Goiás has never gone to Galo Carijó.
