Estadio Universitario
Every Tigres away fan learns the name before they learn the score: El Volcán. Opened in 1967 with Monterrey hosting Atlético Madrid, the ground still sits inside the campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, which is the whole point of the name.
The pitch has carried more than league football. In 1986 it hosted five World Cup matches, including the West Germany–Mexico quarter-final. Tigres later beat River Plate there to lift the 2015 Copa Libertadores, and in 2018 the women's Clausura final between Tigres and Rayadas drew over 38,000 through the gates.
The record crowd is 52,247, packed in for an NFL exhibition between Kansas City and Dallas in 1996. The stadium has also doubled as a concert venue for decades, from Queen's 1981 show through the Rolling Stones, Metallica and Coldplay.
What it has never had is a sponsor's name bolted onto the front. Through every renovation and every era of tenants, it has stayed Estadio Universitario, or simply El Volcán to the people who fill it.
