Tigres UANL U21

The Estadio Universitario sits in San Nicolás de los Garza, on the edge of the Monterrey sprawl, holding just under 42,000 under a roof. It belongs to the senior Tigres UANL side, and it is the ground the club's U21 squad calls home too — the same stands, the same pitch.

The U21 team plays in the Liga MX U21, the reserve competition that every top-flight Mexican club now fields a side in, and Tigres' current entry has only existed in that format for around a year. It replaced an earlier reserve setup, Tigrillos de la UANL, which ran through the 1990s before folding in 1999. Hernán Elizondo took charge of the U21s in 2026.

What the shirt is meant to lead to is not in doubt. The senior team has been Liga MX champion eight times, most recently in Clausura 2023, and beat LAFC in 2020 to win the CONCACAF Champions League — a result good enough to send Tigres to the Club World Cup final that year, where Bayern Munich beat them.

Founded on 7 March 1960 as Club Deportivo Universitario de Nuevo León, the senior club still carries that university identity into the colours — auriazul, gold and blue.
